Updates

I haven't written in a while, I've been too busy to even think! Luckily it has slowed down some recently. The event that kept me most busy was my brother's wedding on September 13th! It was a beautiful day that really made me proud of my little brother. I loved seeing his childhood best friends all grown up in a tux. I finally got to visit their apartment for the first time on Friday night, and it seems like they're really off to a great start. I love them!

My classes are pretty amazing. I look forward to getting on campus and seeing everyone for the day and getting down to business! I feel like just in the few weeks that have passed this fall so far that I have learned more than I have in any other semester. I'm amazed at the passion teacher educators have and it really solidifies my passion for agriculture education. I have had ideas arise from almost every conversation in my education classes that I know I can use in my career.

Things have started rolling on Ag. Council! I have an amazing group of officers that I know will exceed my expectations. I feel like sometimes I have so many ideas that I can't pin it all down, but I could not be more grateful for having this responsibility during my senior year so that I can try to leave on a positive note. I just hope through things like Raiderfest and Ag. Ambassadors that I can help just one future MTSU find their home in our department like I did. I can't imagine being anywhere else.

I have also begun a new venture as a BeautiControl consultant! I haven't hosted any spas yet, but I am building my list and my inventory and spa supplies. I had so much fun hosting the spa for Amanda's bridal shower that I really wanted to be able to help other people experience that much fun, too. My training is on October 11 and I get the second part of my spa kit. I'm excited!

Today I bought a $4.95 ticket to see one of my heroes, Rudy Guiliani, at the Sommet Center in Nashville in about a month. I was reading the Sunday paper and saw this ad for a motivational seminar, featuring people like Pat Summit, Collin Powell!, and of course my favorite, Rudy. I couldn't believe that it was only $4.95, so I immediately when to the website (before finishing breakfast) and saw that somehow it was true. I also bought the $4.99 workbook that goes along with the day. It looks amazing and I'm glad I by chance saw it. It's like America's Leadership, In Concert. I'm such a dork for things like this, but I can't wait. I'm sure I can learn things to help Ag. Council work more efficiently, and also things I can teach my future officer teams.

So basically my life is amazing!

Back to School!

It's been a while since I posted, school has started!

I have always liked school, but this semester already seems to be the best one I've ever had. The quality of my professors and the importance and relevance of the course material has increased exponentially this semester. I'm sure it's because I'm taking all the classes right before student teaching, so they finally have to tell me how to actually do everything. And I love it! I have a SPSE class that teaches how to cater your course material to those with disabilities. I have a Technology in Teaching class in which we built a website, learn how to mail merge in Excel, and tons of other useful things that I will actually be able to apply when it comes to my career. I also have an Instructional Design course once a week that I feel will help me a lot when it comes to lesson plans and classroom management.

I also have Doc's Methods of Teaching Ag Mechanics class, and I'm actually not too worried about it. I'm excited to try out some stuff in the shop. I also have Dr. Gill's Ag in Our Lives, which sounds like it's shaping up to be a bunch of field trips to places and people I came to know well during my state officer year. It couldn't hurt! My last class is online, Companion Animal Management. Because I want to teach a class of Small Animal Care, I think this will be very beneficial. I am also looking forward to adopting a dog once I get an apartment, and I'm excited to learn everything just for my own knowledge!

I turned in my Intent to Graduate and Upper Division forms, and have a few more of those big hurdles to cross, (aside from classes and student teaching) like the Praxis 2 and CLEP'ing Biology. I know it sounds silly, but I'm going to be amazingly proud of myself once I graduate. When it comes to working through things, like financial aid, classes, exemptions for classes, and all the other things that could go wrong, I did it either by myself or with the help of Mrs. Kelly, the Ag Secretary. She is amazing!

I also shopped some this weekend, bought some owl jewelry and some more pieces of Night Owl from Vera Bradley. The big backpack, the lunchbox, and the sunglasses case. I've got to lay off, it's so expensive! I'll love carrying all that around with my laptop case though, I'll be extremely coordinated.

My brother is getting married in two weeks! The Bridal Shower I'm throwing Amanda is a week from tomorrow. With any free time I have, I like to put on a movie and work on the decorations. I also need to start coordinating the music. Then there's the flowers, the shower, and getting anything I need done as a bridesmaid. So much to do, but I'm so happy for my little brother!

Mini-Break, Part 2

On Thursday at 8am, I had to go to the dentist to fix all of my "problems", (lol ... so terrible!) I was there for almost 3 hours and I was sore until last night!

On Friday at 5:15am, I got up bright and early to go to Franklin for the President's Conference for Farm Bureau. Jessica and I were being recognized for representing TN for Collegiate Discussion Meet in next February during the lunch, and Mr. Curtis invited me for the day's activities. We had a great ham breakfast and then I learned a lot about groups that target agriculture from an intense woman from New York. During the breakout sessions, I spent a lot of time talking to David about Ag. Council. I also saw Clint!, my surrogate uncle. He was representing UT Extension. Before lunch, the Chairman and Chairwoman of both the Tennessee Democratic and Republican parties "debated" in front of the conference, and Lee Maddox was the moderator. Loving politics the way I do, I found it very interesting. It was also difficult masking my bias towards the Republican chairwoman, who did an exceptional job of representing John McCain. Despite having to wake up early, I'm glad I went, because I picked up a few things I can incorporate into Discussion Meet later on.

On Saturday, I desperately needed new jeans, and Mom and I went to Old Navy. I love Oldy Navy because sizes seem the most consistent and things there actually fit me! Because of a great sale, I got 4 (yes, four!) pair of pants. As silly as it sounds, I got a good range of "colors". A light pair, a dark pair, one in between, and some dark khakis. Then we went to Liz's and swam a little in her awesome pool! Later that night we watched Michael Phelps make history! I am extremely inspired by what he has done, and I have already thought of how I can incorporate his story into a unit for a leadership class. Dad and I watched some concert DVD's like we do some Saturday nights - last night was 311, Sheryl Crowe, Peter Gabriel, and The Police.
This morning I made breakfast, as usual for Sundays, and then Dad and I watched Vantage Point.

Then ... I started my huge task of "getting my life together" -- cleaning out my entire room. To most, this may seem easy. However, my room is almost as big as my parents', and I not only have tons of clothing and items from still from high school (that I never use or wear), but all of the things I accumulated while I lived in Corlew. So, as I glance in my planner and see nothing penciled in for this week, I am going to organize my entire tangible life. Tomorrow will be mostly culling all the clothing I don't wear so I can donate them. I also have gathered all of my old FFA shirts and am planning to make a quilt from them.

Change Of Plans

I had planned on living in Wood Hall this semester, then moving back home for the Spring semester so that I could be closer to where I will be student teaching. I was also planning on working around 18 hours a week as DA. On Monday, I got my "schedule" and saw I was only on for 6 hours a week. I was paniking! I have supported myself through college by always having a job, even when I was a state officer, but when I saw that schedule it seemed impossible to live on 6 hours a week. I called around every other department on campus - Rec Center, bookstore, Aramark (yes! Aramark! that was the level of my desperation), and some others. Finally, I decided that I should just take the money I was alloting to my Wood rent (for a private room), stay home, and commute like I used to. This seems crazy to most people, especially because I have class 4 days a week, but I did it for two years, and I really liked it. Other things compounded to make commuting more difficult - like being a state officer, working as a waitress, having very limited funds. But I'll have enough gas money, and Mom suggested putting it on a Pre-Paid Visa so that I'd have it seperate and always know its there. And I'm looking forward to it! Its only an hour, and its through the beautiful Sumner, Wilson and Rutherford counties. I have my iPod, my coffee, my sausage biscuit, I'll be good! And when I need to stay, I can stay at Ash's. I have a laptop now to work anywhere during breaks. And this way, I can use the rest of my scholarship money to support myself, and I won't work again until I'm hired as a TEACHER! I know this may sound terrible, but I've worked since high school, so I'm very excited to take the year off from work and be able to focus on my last year of college before my career! I'll be able to work on my methodology, lesson plans, my resume, and all the last minute ends that need to be tied up before student teaching. Needless to say, I can't really have a job during my student teaching semester anyway, so I guess I get my "no work" break a semester early!

The other benefit of doing this is that I get to spend more time with my family. In EXACTLY one month, my brother is getting married! I have a lot to help them with - all the decorations, all the music, all the flowers! and I'm a bridesmaid - and moving next week and being in Murfreesboro all the time really wouldn't lend itself to me doing my best for my one and only little brother. Not to mention, I would have had to get another off campus job that I'm sure won't like me asking off for three days in the first month. That also means I don't have to worry about any work obligations when it comes to Ag Council. I was elected President to coordinate, plan, delegate, carry out, and inspire. I really feel that the extra time I will have will ensure I do the best job for our department. I'm excited!!

On a side note, I went to the dentist today - my first visit since *cringe* 2005! I guess I got busy with college, Ag, FFA ... I got my teeth cleaned and then learned I have *another cringe* 4 cavities! Yuck. I brush my teeth! Twice a day, and sometimes 3! Geez. I have another appointment tomorrow morning bright and early at 8 to fix all but one of them, since its on the other side. That means I'll have a third appointment in the near future. Crazy!

Break, Week 2

The past few days have been eventful. On Thursday, I went to Murfreesboro and saw Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants 2 with Ashley, then we ate pizza and watched America's Best Dance Crew. Friday, Mom and I took pictures of Castalian Springs because it was so beautiful out, then we went shopping and got all the ingredients for spare ribs for Saturday night at Ashley's. Later, I watched the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics and anyone who saw it knows it was beyond amazing! I loved the globe that men were running on. I also waited the whole 2 or so hours it took during the Parade of Nations to see the USA - I love my country! I also loved how George W. was seated and without his jacket most of the parade, but when the US came out, he stood up and put his jacket back on and waved our flag. It made me proud of my President, too. I had voted for the man that rallied for our athletes.

On Saturday morning, Mom and I got up early and went to the Rutherford County Poultry Show. I judged the show, and Mom helped. There were 28 sets of Rhode Island Reds. The children were around the pens while I judged, something we'd never allow in Sumner Co., but I managed to make placements and write information on the cards without worrying about what the children would think. Thank goodness Mom was with me, she wrote everything down and also made me feel better when I had to assign a not-so-good score with the wide-eyed little kid standing right behind the cage. All in all, we learned some things to take back to Sumner Co. for our Chick Chain and had fun on a very beautiful Saturday morning. Afterwards, we went shopping again because we forgot to bring the ingredients for the sauce for spare ribs. By that time, Ashley was home from work, so we went to her apartment and I put everything in the crock pot for dinner that night. Mom hung out for a while, and after she left, we watched the Olympics allllll dayyyyyy. We love the Olympics. We cheered for Michael Phelps, the women's beach vollyball, and men's gymnastics. They also showed the President at various events, then an interview with Bob Costas. He made amazing points about our relationship with China, how the Olympics affect that relationship, and how proud he was of our athletes. Once again, I love our President! Last night I watched the amazing 4 man relay with Michael Phelps and the Americans. The French were heavily favored to win, but in order to keep hope alive for setting the record with the most Gold Medals, the team had to win for Michael. On the last leg, the USA team captain closed on the French and you could hear everyone going crazy in the "Water Cube". The announcers were amped and amazed that the distance could be closed in such a short time. It was unclear in the first seconds after the race ended who won, and when the times came up on the scoreboard, Michael Phelps went completely crazy, because they had won! It was the most amazing team effort I've ever seen! That's why I love love love the Olympics - so many opportunities to be proud of my country.

My second week of freedom is today, and I plan on getting down to the things I really need to do, like laundry and wedding decorations for Danny and Amanda. I need to clean out my things and get ready for the semester. I also sent in my availability for my new job as a DA. What an easy job! This semester should be a breeze.

Fanny Pak Summer is Over

This is very very random, but I had to say something about my favorite crew on America's Best Dance Crew, The Fanny Pak. They were amazing, and they got sent home by some "B-Boys", whatever that even means. Super Crew was always so boring and never as creative as Fanny Pak. If you don't watch the show, you're thinking I'm crazy right now, but they were great and I can't really even articulate why I liked them, except they always did something drastically different. They were more entertaining than anything else I've seen on any show on MTV period. I'd love to think that the way I operate is "Fanny Pak" style - unique, over-the-top, and creative. All summer I've watched them on the show, and now they're gone! I guess it just means the semester will start soon and summer is almost over. Long live Fanny Pak!

Night Owl

Mom and I went shopping at The Paper Mill on the Lebanon square, and I bought my first Vera Bradley piece! I never thought I'd get into Vera Bradley, mostly because of the price. But once I saw the new "Night Owl" pattern, I couldn't stop myself. I justify it by thinking of the many trips I do take, and how I truly do need new, long- lasting, adult luggage. One of the pieces I wanted most, and was somehow one of the least expensive, was the laptop bag. Now my new laptop has a home! On the drive home, I just sat it in my lap and was content. Totally lame, but I don't care!

After I checked out, I spotted something else and walked over to it, then came back to the counter and saw Mom had bought the Zip ID Case for me! So now I have two pieces, both of which were high on my Wishlist for the website, and I got to move them to the "My Collections" part of the site.

Photobucket

This morning I checked the Capture Music City website and saw that of the 5 most popular pictures from the entire contest yesterday, I had three of them! Many of my friends and family have voted, but I have also made friends with other people who frequent the site, and they seem to also like what I have. I'm reluctant to upload too many, because I don't want low quality or repetition, but I decided to upload one more that I took of bright orange life jackets at 4-H camp into the Sports and Recreation category. We'll see! I'm just having fun voting and talking to people. I still have two weeks left in my break, I hope to get some more done!

Capture Music City contest

I mentioned that I have entered a photo contest for an art book that The Tennessean will put out in October called "Capture Music City". I started uploaded pictures on Friday, and now, on Monday, I have all but 1 of my pictures in the Top 5 of their respective categories! I cannot believe it!

To illustrate the chapters as of now, they show the top 5 photos in the category when you click on the chapter. Additionally, on the main page where each chapter only has one picture, they rotate the top 5 pictures to be that picture. Anyway! The point is, all but one of my 7 pictures is in the top - out of about 20,000 pictures!!

Here are screenshots of what I'm talking about. In case I don't get any pictures in the book, I want to remember that I did well for a few days! (My pictures are outlined in red).

I also just checked the "Daily Top Photos" section for the 5 photos that got the most votes yesterday, and two of mine are in that as well! Needless to say, I'm excited today.

In a few hours, I'm meeting Ashley at Opry Mills and we're going to see The Mummy. I'd say we're also shopping but I need to conserve!

Home for August

Keeping with my promise to myself to learn how to cook more things, last night I cooked Steak Fajitas and Mexican Rice. I've cooked neither of those things before, because I usually don't like rice, and although fajitas are just strips of steak, I hate the onions they have to be cooked in and never helped Mom with them when she made them all through the years. We also got a small griddle pan for the stove top, and used that for warming the tortillas. Since I don't usually eat rice, although I liked it, I didn't know if it was good, but Mom and Dad both said they liked it. The fajitas were good, we had lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, and Dad had onions (yuck). I enjoyed making that and can add it to my recipes. Tonight is rib eyes with baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and bourbon baked beans. All of those things are things I have cooked before, and I love to grill, so it should be easy and very yummy.

I'm typing this blog on my new laptop! I'm absolutely in love with it. It's an HP, and I'm going to admit I got it at WalMart. It was $598, and although I will still have to purchase Windows Home and Office, I would have had to with most computers from any store, so I feel like I got a good deal. Wireless card, DVD burner, and it even came with a remote. I LOVE IT! I can't wait to use it at school, in my dorm. I keep saying it, but no more computer labs!

Photobucket

Last night, while rummaging around for things to look at on my new laptop, I found a contest called "Capture Music City," where people submit photographs in different categories that capture the Greater Nashville Area. Living about 38 miles outside of Nashville, I realized this includes me! So I made an account and submitted five pictures between three categories - Pets and Animals, Nature, and Music. Votes for each picture are taken, but you can only vote once, so instead of making it a popularity contest, it is more whether or not it is an exceptional pictures. So in case anyone is reading, take a minute to go to

http://www.capturemusiccity.com/people/iamahoot

and take just a moment to register so you can vote for my pictures. Once you're there, you can also mark that you "Love" them, and leave comments. This makes people more inclined to submit a positive vote. If you have spare time, tell someone else how to sign up and vote, too. I only uploaded just last night, and so far strangers and friends of mine alike have voted, commented, and made them favorites. Thanks to anyone who does this!

I saw The Dark Knight again today with my family. My Dad, who usually is enamoured with superhero movies, just thought it was ok. I absolutely loved it, and was glad to see it for a second time. I usually don't enjoy dark action movies, and I didn't even see the first one, but this was very well made and I plan on buying the DVD once its out. Heath Ledger deserves posthumous Oscar win, and I could see it again just to watch him. I loved it, and I'd encourage other people to see it in the theatre just for the experience.

Tomorrow we may go again to see the new Mummy movie. That may sound excessive, but going to the movies in the summer for me is like going to the the beach in the summer for other people. I love it!

Have a great weekend!

Back Home

I am officially an ex-resident of Corlew Hall. After almost a calendar year, I moved out today. I started last night at about 9pm - because my mom called back after I told her I could move out by the 9th to say she'd be there in the morning - and stayed up until about 2, then got up at 7 to put most everything in my car and wait for her to bring the truck for the big stuff.

When I brought the last of everything down, I realized I wouldn't have a reason to go back into the building ever again. I get attached to places like that in a weird way even with community bathrooms, disgusting smells on the boys floors, loud people above me, the crazy people always in the lobby. It was the first place I lived outside of my parent's house, so I guess I'll always remember it for being that milestone.

While I lived in Corlew, I:

-made some good friends
-got to know Cody better
-listened to my girls and their problems
-stayed up all night with someone who was sick
-laid in the shower when I was deathly ill
-celebrated my 21st birthday
-made a Haunted House
-discovered a new favorite movie
-yelled at my boss
-went to a toga party, and discovered why I should never go again
-listened to new, great music
-went to the best Shooter show yet
-stopped wasting my time dating the wrong guys, and started waiting for a good one
-attended the CMA Music Awards, and met some country music stars
-got elected Ag. Council President
-watched way too much Rock of Love, despite it being the stupidest show in existence
-learned that my family is great to be around
-found out my brother is getting married
-watched lots of Grey's Anatomy
-made some awesome grades, made some not so awesome grades
-renewed my faith in my major
-castrated a bull calf
-killed a few spiders (an act of major bravery for me)

and of course, TONS more. Those are the most distinct memories from the past year. Moving on! I'll be in Wood Hall this fall, then in December I move back to Sumner Co. to be closer to the places where I student teach, then ... I'll graduate!

On a different note, I'm buying my first computer tonight! The tax-free weekend starts at midnight, and since I'd stay up that late anyway, I'm going to buy it then. I know for most people it's old hat but I'm so excited to be able to take it to class, the library, my room ... no more smelly computer labs.

I'm also looking forward to the next three weeks I'll have at home. I plan to:
-clean out, vacuum, and clean the upholstery in my car
-clean out my closet
-donate my old clothes
-organize my scrapbooking stuff
-transfer my iTunes to my new computer
-cook dinner most nights

Speaking of cooking dinner, I really need to get better, so I've taken over supper for the next three weeks to make up for mooching of my parents while I'm here. Tonight was easy, there wasn't much to choose from since we need to go shopping, so I made ham and cheese sandwiches, with pasta. Which is a weird combo, I know, but my parents like this Italian and Ranch pasta mix and they don't seem to mind that they picked things that don't necessarily compliment each other. It bothers me though, because I'm just as much about presentation as I am the food. Tomorrow night is Mexican - grilled steak burritos. I'll have made lots of things by the time I go back to Murfreesboro, hopefully improving my cooking skills.

I'm going to wait for our midnight shopping trip by watching America's Best Dance Crew - go Fanny Pack!

Decoration Shopping and Fair Week

The past few days back home in Sumner County have been really productive. I got to come home to Castalian Springs on Saturday night and Mom and I went shopping for groceries. On Sunday I made my lemon pepper chicken for Mom and Dad, and this time I feel like I did much better. Simply because I only had one skillet, I had to cook the potatoes in a deeper pot and it seemed to prevent them from drying out. Now I know! Dad really liked it and our picky cat who loves chicken ate it too!

On Monday, I went shopping with Danny, Amanda, and Amanda's mom to look at wedding decorations. We went to JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart. Since I am making the arrangements, we decided on silk flowers for everything but the bouquets and boutonnières. That way I'll be able to get lots done ahead of time during my 2 week break before class starts. We also got lots of nice glass bowls and vases for what I think will be a beautiful centerpiece. It will involve water, floating candles, and mirrors. I was happy to be able to help them and I feel good about them trusting me with decorating their wedding. Here is everything in bags on my floor!

Photobucket

I also spoke with a representative for Blue Raider Athletics concerning Raiderfest this year. I'm looking forward to his involvement in making it a big event this November. I want MTSU Ag to be renowned for a great event for FFA and 4-H members. His ideas for making it a more "all-around" experience that day should be things the Ag. Council will be excited to hear about at our first meeting.

Today was a big day at the fair! Tuesday has always been the Poultry Show and Auction, and as a big poultry person I've always been involved somehow. When I was young, it meant getting up at 6am to load the chickens into cages and get down to the fairgrounds in the disgustingly hot truck with no air, loading them into fair cages, registering, and waiting for judging. This year, Danny, Mom, Matt Farris and I judged the show. I love exercising what I learned in a real life situation, and everytime I judge a class I feel like I learn something new. Judging the Red and Black Sexlinks together was a little confusing because they develop at vastly different rates, but we ended up having to judge them all together. The auction brought over $1600! Since my mom has been the PA in charge of the Chick Chain, attendance and participation has improved greatly. She's good at what she does! This is my brother and Clint deciding on Grand and Reserve Champion.

Photobucket

After talking with a Rutherford Co. Agent, Clint called and told me he suggested me to the agent to judge their upcoming poultry show. I love judging and I'm excited to do it!

After sweating all morning in the Poultry Barn, I went to the office and changed into dress clothes to judge the Fun with Fashions and 4-H Clover Style shows. I remember dressing up and modeling when I was young, and I remember being nervous. I was proud of all the girls today for being so calm and prepared.

Jessica, Diane, Bethany, Mom and I are going out tonight to eat and to a movie - I can't wait to make some trouble with them! We always have so much fun, I'm making sure to bring Tylenol so I won't get a headache from laughing. Jessica and I are due for another round of pictures, too.

The past few days have been great and productive - proof that things are better in Sumner County!

Friday Night!

Today I slept for the majority of the day and tonight I'm going to Jim's to hang out with CODY AND DARRIN! I haven't seen them since we went to see Sex and the City premiere so I've missed them! That's the only noteworthy thing happening today, but I do plan to curl my hair in this new awesome way I saw online, so if it turns out well I'll post pictures. :)
I'm going home tomorrow!

Being Productive

I have accomplished some goals this week.

First, I have not eaten any fast food. I FINALLY got groceries, (like I meant to all summer) instead of just running to Sonic. Not only is this saving money but its healthier!

Second, I've been wanting to cook a good meal, and last night I cooked supper at Ashley's apartment. It was actually good! I made lemon pepper chicken, seasoned potatoes, peaches and cream corn on the cob, and crescent rolls. Ashley ate most of hers and I was starving so I had all of mine, which means it couldn't have been all that bad. Next time, I won't use as much lemon juice.

Photobucket

I'm having a second summer Ag. Council meeting tonight. It will probably be sparse, but I don't mind. I just wanted a few people to show up so we can get an idea of when to have the first Ag. Council meeting, and I wanted to get a rough idea for an agenda for the first meeting. I want to make big signs and re-do the Ag. Council space on the octagon before class starts. This year we're going to do it big. I'm excited for what we can accomplish.

I had to deal with Housing and Financial Aid today ... I always feel terror in the pit of my stomach when talking to Financial Aid. But it always turns out ok and today was no exception. Housing, however, has charged me for a Freshman meal plan ... which is something I can't even explain. The woman made it sound like she may or may not be able to take it off - $1,174, btw - so now I am obsessively checking my email to see if she's responded.

Having to talk to everyone and get transferred from here to there back to the first person and over to another department and blah blah ... makes me SO READY TO GRADUATE!

Corlew is Closed!

Finally! I may not be out of my building quite yet, but it is officially CLOSED for the rest of the summer. I am on call tonight and not enjoying the running back and forth between Corlew and Monohan. I'm so ready for this job to be over and to be OUT OF HERE.

On a much brighter note, I'm going to California! I won the trip to compete through the Collegiate Discussion Meet! I'm very excited. I LOVED the Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference, I want to go every year. Once I finally get a grown-up job and work at a high school, I want to join the local Farm Bureau and go to meetings. I can't wait! I felt like I had graduated to a new calibur of people in the industry. I was glad to see all my FFA people. I loooved hearing Lee Maddox's voice on every video. I was so inspired by the stories of the Tennessee agriculturalists. I felt like being there was right where I was supposed to be! Jessica is also going and I'm glad we get to go to California together!

Every participant got $200, and I got an additional $500, which means ... I'm FINALLY getting my own computer! I'm waiting for the tax-free weekend. I'm sure this seems trivial but I've never had my own computer and my mind reels at the thought of everything I will be able to finally do. I won't have to sit in the smelly computer labs like I am right now!

Back at MTSU

This week I am back in Murfreesboro to work a lot of check-ins and check-outs. Today, though, I have the day off. Yesterday I went shopping and found the perfect pair of brown shoes in my size on sale for only 5 dollars. Ashley and I are going shopping later so I can find a pair of khakis. I am spoiled when it comes to dress clothes - I have been an SO for a while now, and yet I'm still stuck in the black skirt phase. Always being in official dress meant never buying khakis!

I got my bridesmaids dress this past Saturday. I also finished the Wedding Notebook I made for Amanda before I left on Sunday. I really hope it helps her.

I have been making a big effort to be better with my money and time. If this summer has taught me anything, it's even more independence and self-reliance. Although this next week is a little different, I have generally managed my money better since May and I don't feel so juvenile when it comes to my budget. I mention it because it seems always on my mind now that I am so aware of having to balance what I need with just what I want.

I'm very excited to go to YF&R this weekend! I enjoy getting older in the industry and listening to Tennessee agriculturalists.

Less than a month until I am done with this job - and 288 days until I graduate!!

Friday at Home

This is my first blog post! I feel just a little silly, because I'm not sure many people would care to hear me go on and on about all the things I tend to go on and on about, but I was inspired by my friend Rachel's blog, and I had to venture into it myself.

As far as my current life situation, I am working in Murfreesboro as a Conference Director. I will openly admit I don't like it, but I only have less than a month, so I'm not going to elaborate on something not worth the space on this page! I'm looking forward to moving into Housing on campus without actually working for them. This is my last semester of classes and I'd like to be able to soak it up and enjoy what I'm learning, instead of worrying about all the things I had to worry about as an RA. It is certainly an experience I'm glad I took at the end of last summer. Had I not,l I really don't know what I would be doing right now. I hate to think I would commuted for a third year to Murfreesboro and not been able to take advantage of campus life. I loved it, and I'm so glad I met all of my 4th floor girls, but I know one more semester will be enough. I also got close to Cody, and although I don't see him much during the summer, I'm so thankful we were able to get to know each other better. I know there's no way I could have made it through Corlew without him. Speaking of Corlew, I have lived in this building for almost a year exactly. I used to renounce dorms and swore I'd never live in one, but I happened to hear of spaces available in Housing, and I moved about a week later after getting the job. Leaving home for the first time was an amazing experience, and although I really miss my lifelong home sometimes, I'm glad I did it. Just because I lived close enough to drive to MTSU doesn't mean I should have done it all my collegiate career. But this summer, there has been very little to do, and I basically go home every chance I can. Thank goodness Ashley is in Murfreesboro or I'd probably go crazy from boredom. I guess I had to give a premature goodbye to Housing, since I'll only be working as a DA in the fall and will have very little to do with anything Housing-related. Although it has little to do with agriculture education, I know that having to deal with the difficult people (especially bosses!) will help me moderate my actions and words with future supervisors, like the principal of the school I will work for. It has also made me appreciate the fact that that my chosen profession will (I assume) be much more exciting and rewarding. People I'm close to hear this too often, but I can't wait to teach!

This Friday is the Young Farmer's and Rancher's Conference! I'm a little apprehensive because I haven't been before, despite being invited, and I just don't know what it'll be like. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and hopefully meeting more new people. I love simply being around people in the industry. I soak up anything they have to say. It should be a great experience!

The other big development in my life is the engagement of my little brother! He proposed to his longtime girlfriend Amanda a few weeks ago, and they're getting married on September 13th. He is also going to Vol State to major in Business Management. I am very proud of what he has done with his life so far! I mention these things because my family really only consists of Danny, me and our parents, so the changes he is making are pretty exciting to us! Amanda also asked me to be a bridesmaid and I was very excited! I'm looking forward to helping them with whatever they need. I used to aspire to be a wedding planner, so this will be a good outlet for my creative energy. This is the bridesmaid dress:

I am exciting for them and I can't wait to see them on their wedding day!
